Actually Al, all the name calling is all getting old. The candidates need to explain what they will push for to restore the economy while at the same time reduce spending. I don't care if they paid 5% or 50% income tax as long as they didn't commit fraud. I for one am not pleased with anyone of them, but have to vote against the incumbent. Everyone in the District needs to get on the same page and #1 pass a balanced budget.
Since the interest rates have fallen to about 1% on savings, we changed our with holdings to single and added about $100 extra withholding taxes each payday total. We got back a tidy sum this year with no allowable deductions. effective tax rate 14.33% via Turbo Tax and 1040A.

A friend of Matt's commented "I hope they lock down the nuclear button because Newt will have us in a war or two in no time." Interestingly, this opinion was shared by Matt's brother-in-law who is retired military and about as far right as you can get.

Dana, having worked with welfare clients in Vermont, the thing that motivated them to get off the dole were time limits to getting checks. You can thank Clinton for that law. It was amazing to see that a "lazy" welfare client, just working the system, got a job about three days before the last welfare check! I totally support limits.
HOWEVER, each case should be judged carefully. There are some who simply cannot get/hold a job due to illness (including mental illness), and they will need lifetime help.
Another client I had was a middle management man in his early fifties whose unemployment had run out, his savings exhausted after 2 years of being unemployed. He broke down in tears at my desk saying he just couldn't feed his family and didn't know what to do. I told him to hold his head up high and go to the welfare office. He was appalled until I told him: Welfare was meant for people in your situation. You will get off it as quickly as you can.
Many, if not most, of the welfare clients I saw were women with children whose fathers paid not a cent of support! And a mother with a minimum wage job cannot support a family these days with her paycheck, OR with just the welfare check. Employers love paying welfare moms minimum wages under the table so she can feed her family. Lots of things need to be fixed.......

I think Newt is an highly intelligent man, would chew up and then spit Obama out in a debate...but I don't think he's who I want for President.
I'm leaning towards Mitt Romney, there are things about him I'm not sure about, but what I do know is he's a successful business man and did well as a Governor and I think he's more apt to work with both parties to something, heck, anything accomplished.
Although I am pretty conservative, I want someone a little to the right, not far right and certainly nothing left of center. Far right won't get anything accomplished either, folks not willing to compromise never get anything accomplished and I'm tired of the bickering.
Government does need to be reduced in size, Social Security needs to be put in a lock box and everyone 50 and older needs to be grandfathered in and they need a new system for the younger generation...it just won't work the way it's set up now.
We need to get folks off welfare that are there because they are lazy and milking the system and we need to put most everything in the hands of the States and let the Federal Government do what it's suppose to do before we become like the other socialized countries and no longer the place everyone longs to be.
Okay, I feel better now.

I don't think Obama is nearly as bad as Newt. But he IS a Chicago politician and learned well in that city how to get ahead. (I have lived in Chicago and it is still a Daley machine.) Wasteful spending has got to stop. Our president needs to get behind and push for a balanced budget and a stop to wasteful spending.
His wife along with the VP's bride needs to stay away from sporting events where it's evident everyone except the TV announcers could hear the boos.
Newt was asked about the entitlements in the last debate, his response, "if you want to eat, you have to work." Well, I know everyone can't have a job but in a way, he was right on and the response monitor showed a 90% approval for the remark.
